Zapier Automation Settings

Overview

Zapier is a service which connects hundreds of popular web apps, including Google Sheets, MailChimp, and Salesforce among others. To create a Zapier Webhook URL, you’ll need to  sign up with Zapier.

Zapier offers a free plan that will work for small deployments with up to 5 zaps and 100 events per month. For larger deployments or ones that need access to filtering or premium apps, they offer paid plans starting at $20/month. More information is available  on their pricing page.

A webhook is a URL published from within your Zapier account that allows Kiosk Pro to communicate with Zapier. Once the webhook is published, it is referenced inside our JavaScript API call to Zapier along with a set of key:value pairs defining the data you’d like to pass.

Once you’ve created an account with Zapier, open your dashboard and click ‘Make a Zap!’ to open a new Zap editor. From there:

  1. Click into the search bar and type ‘webhook’, then select ‘Webhooks by Zapier’ from the filtered results.
  2. Click ‘Catch Hook’ and then ‘Save + Continue’.
  3. Leave the ‘Pick off a Child Key’ field empty and click ‘Continue’.
  4. Copy the webhook shown.

Inside Zapier, calls to the webhook act as a trigger, which can be used to start an action in another app. For example, you could pass a visitor’s contact information to add as a new subscriber to an email list in HubSpot or pass that same information to Gmail to trigger a customized email message to that visitor.

The call is formatted as kp_Zapier_sendNotificationToZap(webhookURL, data, callback);. More information and sample code can be found here.

Pending Zapier Calls

While the device is offline and Kiosk Pro is unable to send calls to Zapier immediately, the app will store calls locally in a queue, which can be viewed as a list in this setting.

This queue will send once the device has re-connected to the internet. Pending calls will only be processed while the kiosk presentation is running, and will not update while inside the settings menu.

History

This feature shows the last 50 Zapier calls sent, allowing you to quickly see the result of a call and pinpoint any problems.

The table can be exported to a .csv file into the Kiosk Pro documents folder on the iPad by selecting ‘Export’ from the top right corner. You can find instructions on how to retrieve this file in our  Storing content locally on the iPad article.
