Locking to portrait or landscape orientation

Kiosk Pro can operate in each orientation, modifying content and navigation bars to be shown correctly in either perspective. Our Enterprise version has a setting that supports locking the display to a specific orientation within the app itself.

In the iPad settings, there is a setting that allows you to use the hardware lock switch next to the volume rocker to lock the orientation of the device, but unless that is covered by an enclosure, your visitors can easily switch this on and off.

To change this:

  1. Open the iPad's settings.
  2. Go to General > Use Side Switch To
  3. To lock screen rotation using the physical lock switch next to the volume rocker, make sure the checkmark is next to 'Lock Rotation'. Hold the device in the orientation you prefer and push the switch to the right so that the orange dot is showing - your device is now locked into that rotation.
  4. If the physical lock switch is accessible and you'd prefer to control this programatically, check 'Mute' and exit the app settings to the Home Screen. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show the Control Center and look for an icon with a circular arrow and a lock inside. Hold the device in the orientation you prefer and toggle this to On/white position - your device is now locked into that rotation.

Note: For most kiosk applications, the Control Center should be disabled within apps as described in our Keeping visitors within Kiosk Pro article.
